Have you ever looked in the mirror and wondered what you could do to tighten your skin? If you’ve tried creams “designed” to tighten loose skin, you’ve probably figured out by now that such cosmetics are not viable options for your skin concerns. At Dermatology & Skin Care Associates in West Chester, OH, we have a solution that is clinically proven to be effective. Here’s what you need to know about Ultherapy.

Does Ultherapy Really Tighten Skin?

There are several bodies of research that scientifically prove Ultherapy tightens skin, including double-blind, third-party studies. Furthermore, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given this treatment its seal of approval for both efficacy and safety.

If you don’t want to read through data-dense medical texts, just ask us during your consultation to see before-and-after photos of real people, just like you, who got real results.

How Does It Tighten Skin?

Ultherapy tightens skin by harnessing the power of ultrasound energy which penetrates your skin with laser-like precision to stimulate collagen and elastin growth where they are needed most.

Unlike other non-invasive skin tightening treatments, this one specifically targets three layers of tissues – your muscles, the deepest layers of your skin, and the fine lines and wrinkles on the superficial layers of your skin.

How Long Do the Results Last?

The skin-tightening results of this treatment typically last one to three years after the final results have been realized. You will see the initial results of treatment within 72 hours of your treatment session, but it can take between two and three months to see the final results depending on how quickly your skin produces collagen and elastin.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

Depending on the scope of the treatment, you can expect it to take anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. If you’re looking for a non-invasive alternative to a mini-facelift, you can expect your treatment session to take around half of an hour. If, however, you’re looking for a non-invasive alternative to a facelift and you want to target loose, sagging skin on your chest, your session may take closer to 1.5 hours.

What Can I Expect During My Session?

Before your session begins, we will cleanse the targeted area of all oil, pollen, dirt, debris, cosmetics, pollutants, and any other potential irritants. Once your treatment area is clean, we will apply the ultrasound gel and place the ultrasound viewer on the gel so we can see the physical structure of your face or chest and calibrate the device appropriately.

Once we’ve identified the appropriate depths to target the area and calibrated the device, it will deliver the ultrasound energy appropriately. While treatment is neither painful nor uncomfortable, you will be able to feel the energy penetrate your skin. Keep in mind, this sensation will be intermittent and only last when energy is being delivered.

What if I Have Sensitive Skin?

If you’re afraid of feeling intermittent periods of warmth, let us know during your initial consultation. We are more than happy to apply a topical numbing cream to your skin before treatment so you won’t feel anything at all. The advantage of using a local anesthetic rather than a general anesthetic is you’re awake during the treatment and there are no side effects, like drowsiness.

This means that even if you opt for localized numbing, there is no extensive observation period after treatment and you are free to drive and operate machinery without restrictions.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

The best way to determine how many sessions you will need is to come in for an initial consultation. Two out of three clients only need one session to see their desired results. However, one out of three clients requires follow-up treatment before they are satisfied with their final results. You may need a second session if you have severe skin laxity rather than mild-to-moderate skin laxity.

Am I a Good Candidate for This Skin-Tightening Treatment?

You may be a good candidate for this skin-tightening treatment if you are at least 18 years of age and have concerns about the appearance of loose, sagging skin. However, in most healthy adults, the skin doesn’t start to produce collagen at a significantly reduced rate until the age of 25. Therefore, most people who seek this treatment are between the ages of 26 and 64.

Since this treatment doesn’t involve lasers, you don’t have to have a certain skin type and tone to safely receive this treatment. Since it is non-invasive, there is no need for general anesthesia. Therefore, you don’t have to have a heart and lungs that are healthy enough for being under general anesthesia for several hours. To find out if this is the right skin-tightening solution for your mild-to-moderate skin laxity concern, schedule a consultation.

Who Shouldn’t Receive This Treatment?

Since this treatment was designed to reverse fine lines, wrinkles, and mild-to-moderate skin laxity, we rarely recommend it for clients who have severely lax skin. If you have severely lax skin and you’re not ready for a facelift, you may need up to three treatment sessions to get the results you want.
